The accused in the alleged rape of a young woman in Bhubaneswar’s Nayapalli area was shot during a police encounter. According to police, the accused allegedly opened fire while trying to escape, following which police returned fire and he sustained a bullet injury to his leg. He was subsequently admitted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. The incident follows the alleged gunpoint rape of a 26-year-old woman at her rented accommodation in Nayapalli. Police had earlier examined CCTV footage and formed teams to trace the accused. The latest reports say the accused was apprehended after the exchange of fire in the Chandaka area.
