Odisha will observe a bandh tomorrow called by the State Congress and Left parties over demands including the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, withdrawal of the MMDR Bill and the resignation of the School and Mass Education Minister over alleged textbook errors. CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML), NCP, Forward Bloc, Samajwadi Party, RJD and JMM are among the non-BJP parties supporting the bandh. Ahead of the shutdown, nine major parties took out a march from AG Square through Vani Vihar and Master Canteen before returning to AG Square. Congress has appealed to people from all sections to participate. The bandh may disrupt vehicular and train movement, while shops, markets, commercial establishments and government and private offices may also be affected. Essential services including hospitals, ambulances, fire services and medicine shops will remain exempt. The Election Commission officially lists Gyanesh Kumar as Chief Election Commissioner.
