Odisha Director General of Police Binaytosh Mishra has issued strict instructions to prevent violence and ensure peaceful conduct of the student union elections scheduled for October 15. A high-level review meeting was held through video conferencing from the DGP’s camp office in Bhubaneswar, with Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Range Inspectors General (IGs) and Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) participating. The DGP directed police officers to maintain law and order on college campuses, take preventive measures before any violence occurs, stay in regular contact with college authorities and closely monitor the situation. He also instructed officers to treat election-related tensions and disputes seriously and take prompt action in accordance with the law. The directions come amid concerns over violence and unrest linked to student union elections at several colleges in Odisha.
