Student union elections have triggered tensions across Odisha, with clashes, threats, nomination disputes and cancellations reported at several colleges. In Nayagarh, BJD MLA Arun Sahu confronted police outside Prajamandal Women's College after the authorities declared a sine die closure following violence. He also opposed the decision to declare sine die at Nayagarh Model Degree College and warned its principal of legal action. Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan criticised the politicisation of campus elections by elected representatives.

In other developments, elections were cancelled at colleges in Soro and Nabarangpur, while tensions were reported in Bhandaripokhari, Bhadrak, Pattamundai, Cuttack, Umerkote and Rourkela. Incidents included threats to a college principal, nomination disputes, protests and clashes between student groups, with one student reportedly injured in Umerkote.

The BJD and Congress accused the ruling party of conspiring to disrupt the elections, while the BJP said it believed in democratic processes and accused the Opposition of creating unnecessary agitation. The developments have turned student union elections into a major political flashpoint in Odisha.
