ଘର ଚାରିପଟେ କାଠର ବାଡ଼...ମୁଣ୍ଡ ଉପରେ ଚିରା ଜରିପାଲ। ଦିନରେ ଜରିପାଲ ଫାଙ୍କରୁ ଘରେ ପଶୁଛି ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟକିରଣ...ଆଉ ରାତିରେ ସେଇ ଫାଙ୍କରୁ ଦିଶୁଛି ଜହ୍ନ ତାରା। ଏ ଘର ନୁହେଁ ତ, ଯେମିତି ଅଭାବ ସହ ଜୀବନର ଗୋଟିଏ ଲମ୍ବା ଯୁଦ୍ଧ। ଆବାସ ଯୋଜନାରେ ଘର ଖଣ୍ଡେ ମିଳିବାର ଆଶା କେବଳ ଆଶାରେ ହିଁ ରହିଯାଇଛି। ନିଜେ ସଞ୍ଚିଥିବା ଟଙ୍କାରୁ ଜରିପାଲ କିଣି ଘରେ ପକାଇଥିଲେ, ଯାହା ଚିରି ଫାଟିଗଲାଣି। ଘର ଅବସ୍ଥା ଏମିତି, କେତେବେଳେ ବି ଭୁଶୁଡ଼ି ପଡ଼ିପାରେ। ଏ ହେଉଛି ନବରଙ୍ଗପୁର ଉମରକୋଟ ବ୍ଲକ ଧୂଙ୍ଗିଆପାଣି ଗାଁର ପଦ୍ମିନୀ ମାଝୀଙ୍କ ଦୁଃଖଭରା ଜୀବନର କରୁଣ କାହାଣୀ।

A heartbreaking story has emerged from Dhungiapani village under Umerkote block of Nabarangpur district, where Padmini Majhi and her family are living under a torn tarpaulin. Wooden fencing surrounds the house, while gaps in the damaged plastic sheet allow sunlight to enter during the day and moonlight and stars to be seen at night. Hoping to get a house under the housing scheme, the family’s wait has remained only a hope. Padmini had purchased the tarpaulin with her savings, but it has now torn and deteriorated. The condition of the house is reportedly so fragile that it could collapse at any time. For the family, life has become a long struggle against poverty and deprivation.
