Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. During the talks, PM Modi stressed the need to move from endless wars towards ending wars and said India supports all efforts towards peace. He emphasised that every day of war sets humanity back, while every step towards peace brings new hope. The two leaders also reviewed India-Russia cooperation in areas including trade, economy, defence and energy. Modi said the partnership between India and Russia continues to grow, while Putin described the relationship as a special and privileged strategic partnership. Modi also invited Putin to attend the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13, 2026.
