A major criminal conspiracy is suspected to have been foiled after a black Mahindra Thar crashed near the Melan ground in Paikarapur village under Chandaka police limits in Bhubaneswar on November 3. The speeding vehicle hit a roadside boundary wall and overturned. During a search, police recovered several weapons, including a machete, a bhujali, an axe and a double-bladed axe. The driver, Ranjit Harichandan, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol. Police suspect the occupants were planning a major crime, as some of them were allegedly involved in previous bomb-throwing and assault cases. Four persons—Ranjit Harichandan, Manoj Bhoi, Satyajit Rautray and Rajib Badajena—have been arrested and forwarded to court. Another accused, Satyabrata Nayak alias Rinkua, fled after the accident and remains absconding. Chandaka police are investigating the motive behind carrying the weapons.
