Relief for Indian Ships in Strait of Hormuz? Iran Announces Exemption from Restrictions

ହର୍ମୁଜ୍ ପ୍ରଣାଳୀରେ ଭାରତୀୟ ଜାହାଜକୁ ଆଶ୍ୱସ୍ତି । ଆଉ ରହିବନି କୌଣସି କଟକଣା। ଇରାନ ପକ୍ଷରୁ ଏହି ସୂଚନା ଦିଆଯାଇଛି। ଭାରତ ସମେତ ଚୀନ୍, ଇରାକ ଏବଂ କତାରର ବାଣିଜ୍ୟିକ ଜାହାଜଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ମଧ୍ୟ କଟକଣାରୁ ମୁକ୍ତ କରାଯାଇଛି। ଭାରତରୁ ଜରୁରୀକାଳୀନ ଔଷଧ ଏବଂ ମେଡିକାଲ ସାମଗ୍ରୀ ଆମଦାନୀକୁ ସହଜ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ଏହି ପଦକ୍ଷେପ ନିଆଯାଇଛି। ତେବେ ଏହି ରିହାତି ସତ୍ତ୍ୱେ ଇରାନ ଭାରତ ଓ ଚୀନର ଜାହାଜଗୁଡ଼ିକଠାରୁ ଯାତାୟାତ ଶୁଳ୍କ ଆଦାୟ ଜାରି ରଖିବ। ତେବେ କତାରର ଜାହାଜଗୁଡ଼ିକ ବିନା ଶୁଳ୍କରେ ଯାଇପାରିବେ। ଏହି କଟକଣା ମୁକ୍ତ ନେଇ ନୂଆଦିଲ୍ଲୀକୁ ଇରାନ ପକ୍ଷରୁ କୌଣସି ଆନୁଷ୍ଠାନିକ ଚିଠି ବା ସୂଚନା ମିଳିନାହିଁ। ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନ ସୁଦ୍ଧା ଭାରତୀୟ ଜାହାଜଗୁଡ଼ିକ ପାଇଁ ପୂର୍ବପରି ସାଧାରଣ ନିୟମାବଳୀ ଜାରି ରହିଥିବା କୁହାଯାଇଛି। ଭାରତ ଆବଶ୍ୟକ କରୁଥିବା ମୋଟ ଅଶୋଧିତ ତୈଳର ପ୍ରାୟ ୯୦% ଆମଦାନୀ କରିଥାଏ, ଯାହାର ୩୦% ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନ ହରମୁଜ ପ୍ରଣାଳୀ ଦେଇ ଆସୁଛି। ପୂର୍ବରୁ ଏହି ପଥ ଉପରେ ଭାରତର ୭୦% ନିର୍ଭରଶୀଳତା ଥିଲା, ମାତ୍ର ପଶ୍ଚିମ ଏସିଆ ବିବାଦ ପରେ ଭାରତ ରୁଷ, ଆମେରିକା, ପଶ୍ଚିମ ଆଫ୍ରିକା ଏବଂ ୟୁଏଇର ଫୁଜେରାରୁ ତେଲ କିଣୁଛି। ଭାରତର ୯୦% ଏଲପିଜି ଆମଦାନୀ ହରମୁଜ ପ୍ରଣାଳୀ ଦେଇ ହୋଇଥାଏ। ଏହା ସହିତ କତାର ଏବଂ ୟୁଏଇରୁ ଆସୁଥିବା ୫୦% ରୁ ଅଧିକ ଏଲଏନଜି ମଧ୍ୟ ଏହି ପଥ ଦେଇ ଆସିଥାଏ। ଏହି ପଥ ଭାରତର ସାର ଆମଦାନୀ ପାଇଁ ମଧ୍ୟ ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ।

Indian commercial ships may get relief from restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran reportedly announcing exemptions for vessels from India, China, Iraq and Qatar. The move is aimed at facilitating imports of emergency medicines and medical supplies from India. However, Iran will reportedly continue collecting transit charges from Indian and Chinese ships, while Qatari vessels will be allowed to pass without charges.

However, India has not yet received any official communication from Iran regarding the exemption. Normal regulations are reportedly continuing for Indian vessels for now. India imports nearly 90% of its crude oil requirements, with around 30% currently passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier, India's dependence on this route stood at around 70%. India has diversified its oil imports to Russia, the US, West Africa and Fujairah in the UAE following the West Asian conflict.

The Strait of Hormuz is also crucial for India's energy security, as around 90% of its LPG imports pass through this route. More than 50% of LNG imports coming from Qatar and the UAE also transit through this strategic waterway. The route is equally important for India's fertiliser imports.
