Choudwar Jail Superintendent Sujit Kumar Roul has been arrested by Choudwar Police in connection with the escape of two Bihar inmates from Choudwar Jail. He was arrested in cases involving the inmates’ escape, alleged signature forgery and tampering with official office records. His anticipatory bail plea had earlier been rejected by the High Court. The role of Sujit Roul had been under suspicion since prisoners Raja Sahani and Madhukant Kumar escaped during last year’s Durga Puja. Former jailer Santosini Das had also lodged a complaint alleging signature forgery, alteration of the minute book and other government documents. Her complaint also alleged that Roul was absent without official permission on the day of the escape, while the jail register showed multiple entries and exits, and that his CDR location was in Khordha. Further allegations included attempts to obstruct the investigation, destroy CCTV footage and electronic evidence, and pressure witnesses.
