A speeding BMW crashed on Mumbai’s Coastal Road near Lotus Jetty, opposite Lala Lajpatrai College, around 5:20 am while travelling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali. Three of the four occupants were killed and one sustained critical injuries after the car lost control, hit the outer barrier and plunged from the elevated road. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash, with preliminary reports pointing to high speed as a key factor. The incident has again brought the dangers of high-speed driving into focus. Road safety expert Bikas Mahapatra, as cited in the source copy, stresses that safety features such as airbags, ABS and traction control cannot eliminate the risks created by excessive speed.
