Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on Congress and Rahul Gandhi at an event in New Delhi on his birthday, responding to allegations of vote theft. Shah accused Congress of using these allegations to protect votes allegedly cast by infiltrators. He said the party accepts election results when it wins but blames Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) or the Election Commission when it loses. Shah also pointed out that the BJP won elections in several states even before Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, while Congress has remained away from power for decades in states such as Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Rahul Gandhi, who is currently on a foreign visit, has not responded directly to Shah’s remarks, while senior Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit has presented the party’s response. The exchange has intensified the political war of words between the BJP and Congress over vote-theft allegations and the issue of infiltrators.
