US President Donald Trump has temporarily put on hold a proposal to impose tariffs of up to 100% on five countries, including India, that purchase oil from Russia. The decision has brought temporary relief to India and other countries importing Russian oil. The proposed measure was part of a new US law aimed at putting pressure on Russia by imposing steep tariffs on major countries buying Russian oil and gas. Trump has reportedly paused the move, citing US national interests, reducing the immediate risk of additional tariffs on India. However, the decision is not permanent, and the US could reimpose the restrictions if required. Meanwhile, trade agreement negotiations between India and the United States are continuing.
