Professor Indramani Nath, former coordinator of the Wildlife Health Centre and former Head of the Surgery Department, has opposed the proposal to return the five rescued orangutans from Odisha. He believes the animals can live in the environment at Nandankanan and says there is no need to send them back.

Professor Nath cited the example of two orangutans rescued earlier from the Guwahati area. According to him, they are living healthily at Guwahati Zoo in the local environment. He argued that the rescued orangutans in Odisha can also adapt to Nandankanan.
