Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s controversial remark about Prime Minister Narendra Modi has triggered a political storm. Speaking at the 139th birth anniversary celebration of Bihar’s first Chief Minister, Dr Sri Krishna Singh, in Patna, Kharge responded to a voice from the crowd saying “Modi nahi jayega” with the remark, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega.”

The BJP strongly condemned the statement, alleging that it insulted the Prime Minister and his late father. Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticised Kharge, calling the remark a breach of all limits of decorum and attributing it to the Congress’s frustration over repeated electoral defeats. BJP leaders, including Nitin Nabin, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Baijayant Panda, also criticised the comment.

The controversy reached Odisha, where the state BJP held a protest march from its office to Master Canteen Square in Bhubaneswar. Congress leaders dismissed the controversy as an unnecessary issue, while a BJD MLA said the BJP government should be removed from power at both the national and state levels.
