A deeply emotional scene unfolded at Raghunath Jiu Government High School in Chinchalgadia under Rasagobindpur block of Mayurbhanj district after an order was issued to transfer five teachers to other schools. Students had earlier locked the school gate and staged a protest against the transfers.

As three teachers—Mrityunjay Rout, Chinmay Kumar Samal and Hemangini Mohant—were preparing to leave, students cried and pleaded with them to stay. Some students even held the headmaster's feet and requested that the teachers not be transferred. One girl student reportedly fell unconscious and was taken to hospital in the Tahsildar's vehicle.
