A new chapter has been added to the Khurda Road–Balangir railway line with the newly constructed Purunakatak–Charichhak section in Boudh district undergoing inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety. The section stretches about 13.35 km, and a speed trial was also conducted between Charichhak and Purunakatak stations. The newly built stretch includes two major viaducts and Tunnel T-7. The CRS inspection is a step towards commissioning the section and opening it for regular train operations. The railway line has long been a dream for residents of the region, who gathered near Charichhak to watch the train during the inspection. After years of waiting, locals are looking forward to the day when they can board trains from their own area. The Khurda Road–Balangir project is a 301-km new line connecting Odisha's interior regions.
